COLOUR STUDY: DUSTY PINK

The colour of… the horizon at dusk and native flowers in bloom.

There is a native bush by the window just outside my art room, flowers blooming into gentle focus, drawing my eye and bringing a sense of ease and joy to my body and mind. They are the colour of dusty pink. I love the way this colour makes me feel. Capturing my heart in the muted tones that dance through the night sky as day turns into night and light moves into softness. There is poetry here in the way this colour warms me and manifests a feeling of positivity.

Peeling back the layers of this infatuation, I realised that I see myself in this colour. A gentle representation of my personality in the way that kindness, compassion and understanding are a part of me and what I value so dearly. In terms of colour psychology, dusty pink symbolises such virtues and those of care and acceptance. A nurturing colour, woven through all aspects of my life. Life as a mother. Life as a pharmacist. Life within the beautiful community around me. It all starts with colour, as though nature itself was painting a calming sky or nurturing petal. I see the connections through my paintings in that way. Through the inspiration of nature and her colour palette. Dusty pink woven through the layers of my work and connecting back to the muse within me.

Dusty pink calls to me strongly, both consciously and subconsciously, I am drawn to this hue and the magic of potential colour harmonies. Paired with shades of green as if in nature by design. The right amount, just so, is given strength next to dusty pink. Neutrals and browns create a beautiful earthy feel, a warm purple for a romantic touch or a cooler blue can really pop alongside a toasty dusty pink. For me, dusty pink is both a colour of play and a colour of confidence. A colour to be enjoyed as a focal point or to elevate a piece with complimentary poise. A colour of pure joy and infinite potential for expression.

The gravitational magic of this colour will forever be echoed through my senses and found within the canvases of my abstract art.

The ultimate colour story. The ultimate love story.

A colour study. The colour of…

Dusty Pink.
